Min Ku, Mathematics Academic Instructor

I am a mathematics educator with more than 23 years of teaching experience in a variety of educational settings, including colleges, private high schools, and career and technical education. I earned both my bachelor's and master's degrees in Mathematics from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Throughout my teaching career, I have been committed to helping students develop strong mathematical skills, confidence, and problem-solving abilities. My experience across different educational environments has given me the opportunity to work with students with diverse academic backgrounds and career goals. I am particularly passionate about making mathematics meaningful by connecting mathematical concepts to real-world applications and helping students understand how math can support their academic, professional, and personal success.

Currently, I teach mathematics at Randolph Technical Career Center (RTCC), where I continue to focus on providing engaging, practical, and student-centered mathematics instruction that prepares students for college, careers, and life.

 

1. Pre-Tech MATH

E-Textbook: Martin-Gay: Basic College Mathematics with Early Integers, 4e

2 x 50 minutes lecture

This course focuses on arithmetics of whole numbers, integers, decimals, fractions, ratio, proportion, percent, measurements with real world applications. It will also prepare students to understand and interpret numerical and graphical data sets and model and solve algebraic linear equations This course helps students gain mathematical literacy in the real world and have a strong foundation on these mathematical concepts for future study in math and other disciplines.

2. MATH I (Problem Solving I)

Textbook: Consortium: MIA: Intro to Algebraic, Graphical, & Numerical Problem Solving, 6e

2 x 50 minutes per week lecture

This course focuses on algebraic, graphical, and numerical problem solving skills with emphasis on understanding concepts of properties of arithmetic, signed numbers, fractions, decimals, percents, algebraic expressions, linear equations and inequality, and quadratic equations with function notations. This course helps students gain mathematical literacy in the real world and have a strong foundation on these mathematical concepts for future study in math and other disciplines.

3. MATH II (Problem Solving II) (Not offered in 2026-2027)

Textbook: Consortium: MIA: Algebraic, Graphical, & Trigonometric Problem Solving, 6e

2 x 50 minutes lecture

MATH II focuses on algebraic and graphical problem solving skills with emphasis on understanding, interpreting, and analyzing functions such as linear, quadratic, rational, radical, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. This course helps diverse learners master these mathematical concepts and apply them to solve real world problems.

4. Personal Finance

This Personal financial literacy spans the continuum of education and can help prepare our students with the knowledge and skills needed to make wise economic decisions throughout their lifetime. Personal finance education helps students understand their role as independent adult consumers, fully prepared to make wise financial decisions with regard to earning, spending, and saving, as well as managing credit, debt, risk and investment for a lifetime of economic security.
